What are the differences between 13, 1300 and 1800 numbers?

13 Numbers
13 numbers are the premium phone numbers in Australia, as there are less than 9000 in the 13 number range as compared to 1300 and 1800 numbers, which have over 1 million in their respective number ranges.

13 numbers have 6 digits in total. An example is 13 CABS (13 2227). 13 numbers allow your customers to call from a fixed line anywhere in Australia for the cost of a local call.

13 numbers tend to be used by national companies who want to take advantage of the scarce number range or by smaller organisation who would like to look "bigger". 13 numbers also help companies to differentiate themselves from the competition.

1300 Numbers
1300 numbers are 10 digit numbers and operate exactly as 13 numbers, in that they enable customers to call from a fixed line anywhere in Australia for the cost if a local call.

1800 Numbers
1800 numbers are 10 digit numbers that allow your customer to make calls free of charge from any fixed line in Australia.

What is over dial?

In Australia, there are three types or National and Toll Free numbers. There are 13 & 1300 numbers (local call) and 1800 numbers (toll free).

13 numbers have 4 digits after the 13 (6 digits in total). An example would be 13 CABS (13 2227).

1300 and 1800 numbers have 6 digits following (10 digits in total). An example would be 1300 BRAKES (1300 272537)

Over dial occurs when the actual Phone Word is longer than the corresponding number it relates to for the particular inbound service. An example is provided below:

1 3 E X C E L
1 3 3 9 2 3

As 13 numbers only have 6 digits in total the "L" is simply what is referred to as over dial. The telecommunications networks are sophisticated enough to drop off the over dialled letter/number and connect your call.

Is my Phone Word available for exclusive use?

Your Phone Word will be available for exclusive use in your chosen region.

There are two types of leases to choose from (Exclusive or Shared use).

Exclusive use gives you Australia wide coverage for inbound calls to your Phone Word.

Shared use means that you can use your Phone Word in a specified geographical region (Eg/ Inbound calls from Victoria only). This is particularly useful to companies who get their business from a limited geographical area.
